Our club has reached an agreement with Fernando Torres by which the football player will continue playing as an Atlético in the 2017-18 season. The striker born in Fuenlabrada extends his contract until June 30th, 2018 and will be a part of the squad that will inaugurate the Wanda Metropolitano.
Fernando Torres trained in our Academy, which he joined when he was 11 as a Juvenile, standing out from the first moment and making the leap to the first team from the Cadets in the 2000-01 season, when h made his debut against Leganés at the Vicente Calderón stadium on the 27th of May of 2001. From then on, he consolidated in the first team, achieved the promotion to the First Division, became the red and white leader and was called by the senior national team. After six full seasons with our first team, Fernando Torres began a new stage in English football, first with Liverpool and later in Chelsea, where he continued demonstrating his quality and winning titles, just like with the Spanish national team, with which he won two European Championships (2008 and 2012) and the World Cup in 2010.
In the winter market of the 2014-15 season, Fernando Torres returned home, packing the Vicente Calderón with Atlético fans that gave to him the best possible welcome, which became a historic morning. In these two and a half campaigns since his return, the forward from Fuenlabrada has scored 28 goals. Fernando Torres will seek to continue increasing his records with our team next season.
