Atleti lost 2-0 at San Mamés on Saturday against Athletic Club.
Both sides tried to dominate possession and attack the opposition during the first half. However, there weren't many good chances for either team before half-time, although Oblak was forced to make an excellent save after around 35 minutes. The Slovenian keeper flew to deny an Ibai volley attempt. Griezmann had a penalty call before the break, but it wasn't given.
Our team started the second half well, and our number 7 almost found Saúl - who played at left-back today - in the first few minutes during a run into the box from the Spaniard. Our midfielder was inches away from connecting with the ball. We had a good chance on a counter-attack shortly thereafter, but once again couldn't make the final pass. Morata had a penalty call 15 minutes into the second half, but once again it wasn't given.
Atleti were playing better and better, and were getting closer to Iago Herrerín's goal. However, just after the 70th-minute mark, Iñaki Williams found the net to put Athletic Club in the lead. Simeone subbed off Juanfran and brought on Correa some ten minutes before the end for extra attacking potential. But today was not our day, and Athletic Club doubled their lead as Kodro's shot was deflected into the back of the net. The game finished shortly thereafter and the three points stayed in Bilbao.
