Atlético de Madrid took the field of the BayArena convinced of what they had to do. Saúl, scored a masterful goal to open the score. With a Bayer stunned by the blow, a rapid counterattack from Gameiro with a pass to Griezmann became the 0-2. Bayer wanted to shorten distances but Moyá saved Kampl's shot. And Griezmann, from another assist by Gameiro, could have scored but Leno saved it.

In the first minutes of the second half, Bellarabi shortened the gap, although the team was not daunted and wanted more. Gameiro sent a drive to the woodwork, just before making a spectacular play that ended in a penalty and that the same Gameiro transformed into the 1-3. Bayer was lucky to shorten the gap again with a cross that Moyá cleared and bounced on Savic. But Fernando Torres had the last word, and finished up a great result at the BayArena with a header for the 2-4.
