The return home of Fernando Torres has broken all expectations. Thousands of fans waited an hour before the start of his presentation for the arrival of the Atlético idol. The first part of the event began in the VIP lounge of the Vicente Calderón, where Enrique Cerezo welcomed Torres alongside directors, family members and friends of the player and more than 250 members of the media.
The chairman of Atlético de Madrid highlighted the relationship of the Club with the striker from an early age and his commitment with these colours. "As you've acknowledged a few days ago, you are finally back. Since that 4th of July of 2007, all the Atléticos have been waiting for this day. A day on which we welcome back a player who perfectly represents what Atlético de Madrid is," noted Cerezo in his welcoming speech.
After the words from our chairman, Fernando Torres took the stage and to thank the welcome from the Club and promised to give his all for the colours he loves. Enrique Cerezo and José Luis Caminero presented him with the shirt with the number 19 on the back.
Afterwards, Fernando Torres put on the kit and took the field of the Vicente Calderón Stadium, where he was received with a thunderous ovation. The striker greeted the red and white fans and posed for the print and television media. Then he turned and ran to the opposite sideline where he was being anxiously cheered by thousands of fans. Fernando thanked them for coming to see him and promised to fight tirelessly for the red and white shirt, receiving a warm ovation for it. He then signed and threw several Atlético de Madrid balls to the stands, which became precious treasures for the winners. And greeting the 45,000 fans, he ended one of the happiest moments of his life.
