Don Felipe VI remembered during his speech the first time that he visited the Vicente Calderón: "A stadium that brings such good memories to all. And I have returned here so many times to live unforgettable moments of a sport, football, which helps so much to create feelings, empathy, competition between people and project our international image. Today, as the majority, I do it for the last time, but to speak about the future, a future that is and must be innovative.”

The King Don Felipe emphasized that the innovative character of the Vicente Calderón in its inauguration and the one that the Wanda Metropolitano will have by having a cutting-edge technology: "At a time in which the Vicente Calderón, which was an innovative field in its day, and even pioneering in Europe, by offering to seat all of its spectators, will pass the torch to a new Atlético stadium that will be again at the forefront of technological progress in the sector. I do not want to leave without wishing Atlético de Madrid in this new phase, and as one of the reference teams in Spanish football, to continue to keep alive the sportsmanship that has always symbolized this Vicente Calderón stadium that will always remain in our memories and in our hearts."
