The first squad returns to work to prepare for the clash against Zaragoza

Filipe Luis rejoins the group and trains normally

After the painful defeat that Atlético de Madrid suffered last Saturday to Unai Emery’s Valencia at Estadio Vicente Calderón (1-2), it’s now time to train hard to get ready for their next league fixture against Javier Aguirre’s Zaragoza. The Mexican manager will face many of his former players as well as other organizational members with whom he shared his daily work during his time as head coach of Atlético. It will be a crucial encounter for the ‘rojiblancos’ to pick themselves up after a poor run of results.

After a day-and-a-half off, the team began to work at the Majadahonda Sports Complex facilities. The players are aware that they can’t let any more points slip away and La Romareda could be a good stage to change their fortune. Therefore, Quique Sánchez Flores wants to throw all the meat on the fire and push and motivate his players to offer their best sides against the Zaragoza squad.

The squad began the day with aerobic work and then moved into small-sided keepaway games in circles and then paid special attention to ball possession. To finish, the group played a series of small-sided games. Brazilian Filipe Luis completed the entire session without problems, as he rejoined the group work on Monday after overcoming his injury.

Furthermore, David De Gea did alternative work, so Sito, from Atlético de Madrid B, trained alongside Joel and Emilio Álvarez, the goalkeeping coach. Also absent was Borja González, out with a sprained ankle.

The team will return to practice on Tuesday 15 February at the Majadahonda Sports Complex at 11:30 am in a session which will be open to the media.
