Simeone: "The players deserve a 10"
Diego Pablo Simeone was pleased with the work of his players at El Madrigal. He emphasised his players deserve full credit.
The Atletico coach said in the press room of El Madrigal that "we have come up against a team that plays well and is on good form. In defence thweey made a great effort and that meant that they had no clear goal situations. Yes they had control of the ball and we could not play as we wished. In the first half it was better and Villa had a chance when he got a head on a Juanfran cross. An important point against a direct rival in what we’re fighting for. Congratulations to the players because they are making a huge effort."
He acknowledged that the opponent was a tough opponent in this meeting because "it was difficult for us to get out and find good triangulations and spaces needed because Villarreal had more of the ball and we were cornered. We could not get out creatively from defence to attack. My congratulations to the players, who deserve a 10 for the effort."
Finally, he noted that "in this game we lacked creativity to attack because Villarreal played very well."
