Saúl: "The goal and the celebration is a mixture of happiness and freeing"
The home-grown player scored shortly after taking the field after substituting the injured Koke and showed his enormous talent until a blow to the knee forced him to leave the field on minute 71.
Saúl Ñiguez took the field of the Vicente Calderón only 10 minutes into the derby. Koke’s muscle injury forced Simeone to make the change. The home-grown player was the author of a superb goal shortly after entering the field scoring the 2-0 on 18 minutes.
The midfielder claimed that this derby "has been one of the best matches of the team that I can remember. We were solid despite the injuries and everyone, even those of us who played less, responded very well."
The spectacular bicycle kick from Saúl Ñíguez to score the 2-0 fired up the Vicente Calderón. "The truth is that I didn't see the goal. I was home when I could finally see it in the recap. It’s a great goal, one of the best goals of my career."
The midfielder speaks of the celebration. "I don't know well how to describe what I felt. I just saw the photos and from my expression I see a mixture of happiness and freeing."
Simeone praised in the press room the work of Saúl and the home-grown player claims to be "very grateful to Simeone. He has been the coach that has made me debut in every competition. He has been straightforward. I have to work, learn, wait and give my all whenever I get the chance."
