WITH 421 GAMES

Saúl equals Arteche as the eighth most-capped player in club history

The midfielder continues to add to his history with our shirt after playing in the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Saúl Níguez reached 421 appearances for Atlético de Madrid after playing against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. With this figure, he equals Juan Carlos Arteche in eighth place in the ranking of players with the most games played for our club. The midfielder, born in Elche, reaches this impressive figure at 29 years of age and after more than a decade of commitment to our shirt.

Saúl arrived at our club in the 2008/09 season. On 8 March 2012 he made his debut with the first team in a Europa League match against Besiktas at the Vicente Calderón. Almost the same day, but 12 years and 48 goals later, he is the 8th player who has worn the Atleti jersey more times than any other player.

In this time, our current player has won 2 UEFA Europa Leagues (2011/12 and 2017/18), 1 league (2020/21), 1 Copa del Rey (2012/13), 1 Spanish Super Cup (2014/15) and 1 European Super Cup (2018/19).
