Reyes: “We have four matches left, they’re finals and we have to win them”

“Champions League is tough, but while there’s life there’s hope”

José Antonio Reyes was the ‘rojiblanco’ players who passed through the Press Room at the Majadahonda Sports Complex and broke down the current state of the team. The winger highlighted that Atlético de Madrid is in great form, that they are missing those points lost at specific points of the season that would now be golden for the squad and that, even though it looks near impossible, they’re not ruling out Champions League, stressing that the team is going to fight to win the four games left in the season.    “We’re in good form, you have to admit. We’ve been playing good games recently and have been very focused. Obviously we miss those matches in which we lost points in silly fashion. But we can’t look in the past, only to the future. We have four games left which are four finals and we have to win them, that’s it,” commented the Atleti ‘19’.   With respect to why Atlético have taken so long to begin to work, Reyes commented that “that’s football. You always want to play well and be at a high level but there were games in which we made mistakes. Now our shots are going in and we’re having some luck and that’s important.”   Concerning whether it seems like a pipe dream to reach fourth place, which would give them the right to play in Champions League, currently held by Villarreal, he stated that “it’s going to be tough, because we’re 8 points behind them. But as long as there’s life, there’s hope. We’re going to keep fighting until the end.”   There’s absolutely no doubt about the current form of Reyes, and some will definitely be asking whether he’ll receive the prize of being called back into the National Team. The ‘rojiblanco’ player said that “obviously I’d be interested, but that’s Del Bosque’s decision. If it were my decision, clearly I’d call myself up. The important thing is to play well at my club and always give one hundred percent, which is what I’m doing. And if the call comes, then it will be welcome.”   To finish, he was asked whether, with the league almost in the bag, the fixtures between Barcelona and Real Madrid and the direct rivals of Atleti could affect the results. “Nothing scares us. We have to win our games and whatever the other teams do is separate. We have to look at ourselves, not the other teams,” he concluded.
