No luck

 Nearly nine months later, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid returned to see their faces in the Copa del Rey, this time in an exciting semifinal. On May 17 Atleti ended a bad run in derbies with a victory that all Atletico fans will remember forever. Goals from Diego Costa and Miranda canceld out Cristiano Ronaldos opener.

Four months later, in the league, the same scenario, again Atletico win with goals from Diego Costa, who has emerged as the 'black beast ' for the whites. Now Atletico Madrid topping the league table, came to the Bernabeu in order to find a good result that would allow successfully challenge in the second leg in a Cup as defending champion, though the night was the opposite of what was thought and fortune was with Real Madrid.

The meeting started with great pace, with both teams seeking to hit the respective target, although no clear chances came until Gabi launched a cross into the area where Arda Turan had his chance saved by Casillas. After 12 minutes Real Madrid had three corners in succession but they were defended well and safe for Courtois.

But such is football. When there had been a shot on from Pepe it was deflected off of Insua who was unlucky to divert it beyond Courtois. The response was immediate, with a free kick executed by Gabi and Miranda came off but Casillas saved miraculously. A move that had seen Arbeloa grab Diego Costa inside the area, Clos Gomez saw it but didn’t award the penalty.

From that moment, the whites attempted to increase their lead, but a solid defense that barely left gaps. Only two chances after 31 minutes with a shot from Jesse that the Belgian goal saved, the rebound went to Modric but his shot was stopped again by Courtois. Until the end of the first half, the Whites had more possession but without creating excessive danger.

Diego Ribas was replaced at the break by Cristian Rodriguez. It was the first movement of the team from Simeone aiming to have more presence in attack using the speed advantage of the Uruguayan. And the first chance of the second half was ours. A corner from Koke beat the goalkeeper but Godin nodded over the crossbar.

Shorty after the second goal came in a move that changed the course of the game. Di Maria was able to play in Jese in the box who scored to make it 2-0. Shortly after Diego Costa saw the yellow card that will prevent him playing in the second leg. Adrian soon came on for Arda Turan.

After 71 minutes Godin almost pulled one back from a corner but it was cleared off of the line by Modric. fortune was on the white side because a distant shot from Di Maria deflected of Miranda wrong footing Courtois to make it 3-0. Greater misfortune could not have happened.

The rojiblancos continued to look for an away goal but it was not to be. We will have to rely on the comeback at the Vicente Calderón in order to help achieve some victory that has been achieved this season at home.
