Mr. Enrique Cerezo: 'The Europa League is difficult, but miracles happen”

The ‘rojiblanco’ President highlighted the goals of Atlético

The President of Club Atlético de Madrid, Mr. Enrique Cerezo, addressed the journalists at the ‘rojiblanco’ Christmas dinner with the media, touching on the current state of affairs at the organization and giving his point of view on the club’s upcoming fixtures.

The first one will be this Thursday in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen, where Atlético will play for qualification to the next round of the Europa League, although they don’t depend on themselves to do so after slipping up in the penultimate matchday of the group stage. “If Aris were able to beat us at the Vicente Calderón, Rosenborg can win in Greece. If they play as they usually do and not as they did here, they could fall. We have to win and hope a miracle happens. It will be difficult but anything can happen in football,” he commented.

The ‘rojiblanco’ executive also referred to the forthcoming league match against Málaga, and didn’t hesitate to affirm that “if we’re lucky and we win the game, I think that we can fight to be amongst the top three or four teams.”

To wrap up his speech, he again highlighted what he feels the goals of Quique Sánchez Flores’ squad should be for the rest of the season. “The aim was to go really far in the Europa League, which has become very tough, but miracles happen. We want to have a good Copa del Rey, which I think we can do. And, above all, we want to finish amongst the top three or four in La Liga,” he stated.
