Mr. Enrique Cerezo: “I hope and I plead for us to play a good game and beat Madrid”

“We still have the Europa League and we’re going to get there”

Mr. Enrique Cerezo, President of Atlético de Madrid, attended to the media at the Majadahonda Sports Complex and commented on this Saturday’s derby against Real Madrid. “We’ve been saying the same thing for almost 100 years, which is that we all want to win. We’re calm because they’re three important points for our aspirations, which he still have. But Madrid is playing for La Liga and they’ll be nervous. Matches go the way they go. We could have a good game and win or a bad one and lose, but I hope and I plead for us to play a good game and win.”

Concerning whether their opponents might go into the contest tired from their Champions League game against Olympique de Lyon, the President believes that “the truth is that they don’t have much time to rest. I would have postponed it until the end of league play.”

In any case, it was mentioned to him that Atlético de Madrid seems to be approaching this match in better form than when they faced off in the Copa del Rey on 20 January. “All games are different. We want to win because we haven’t defeated Madrid in many years and, in the second place, because they’re three important points that are important to both of us.”

With regards to whether it would be a failure for Atlético de Madrid to not reach Champions this season, Mr. Enrique Cerezo was emphatic. “The truth is yes, it would be. We said so at the beginning of the season and we hold to that idea. We still have the consolation of the Europa League, which is also a good consolation, and we’re going to accomplish that.”
