OUR GOALKEEPER KEEPS BREAKING RECORDS

Jan Oblak equals Fernando Torres

With 404 games, the Slovenian international equals another Red & White legend as the ninth player with the most appearances in the history of our club.

Jan Oblak continues to make history with our club. In the Champions League match against Celtic, the Slovenian international has equalled Fernando Torres with 404 games as an Atleti player, becoming the ninth Atlético de Madrid with more games played, just like our academy player.

The player from Škofja Loka arrived at our club on 16 July 2014 and made his debut in goal on 16 September of the same year in a Champions League match against Olympiacos. Since then, Jan Oblak has recorded actions and performances that remain in the collective memory of the Atleti fans, proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Moreover, his importance in the team has grown to the point that, since 2019, he has been part of the first team captain's list.

During his time as an Atlético de Madrid player, Oblak has achieved a brilliant list of honours, winning LaLiga 2020/21, a Europa League (2018), a European Super Cup (2018) and a Spanish Super Cup (2014). In addition to these titles, he has also won numerous individual mentions, earning him the distinction of being one of the best goalkeepers in the world: he was part of the UEFA Champions League 2015/16 and 2016/17 ideal team, the UEFA Europa League 2017/18 and has won five Zamora trophies (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21).

To all these awards and achievements we can add these two new milestones: being the foreigner with the most appearances and the tenth player with the most games for the club. Jan, who is also the goalkeeper who has defended our goal the most times, is now ahead of only eight other Red & White legends: Koke (577), Adelardo Rodríguez (553), Tomás Reñones (483), Enrique Collar (470), Carlos Aguilera (456), Isacio Calleja (425), Juan Carlos Arteche (421) and Gabi (417).
