"It’s a source of pride to be able to play in the Azteca"
Diego Pablo Simeone and Gabriel Fernández commented at a press conference how important this tournament is for Atlético and what it means to play in a stadium such as Mexico’s Azteca.
The coach and captain of Atlético de Madrid, Diego Pablo Simeone and Gabriel Fernández, spoke at a press conference of Wednesday’s match, where they’ll play against Mexico’s Azteca as part of the EuroAmerican Cup
Atlético’s coach wanted to stress the importance of a tournament that was a great help to his team achieving last season’s successes. "We’re competing in this tournament in which we took part last year, which was very gratifying because of the competence we had in the preparation, which helped when facing the season that went as well as it did. So that’s why we’re repeating”, he said.
In the Azteca there’s a lot of football history
The Argentinian expressed his gratitude to the cities that Atlético is visiting in its American tour. "Thank both the City of San José and San Francisco where we were treated very well, and likewise here in Mexico, where it’s always a pleasure to return, a source of pride to take part as a coach and as a team in the Azteca, where there’s an enormous amount of football history", he said.

For his part, Gabi trusts Atlético to play a great game against one of the leading teams of the American country. "We hope to play a great role tomorrow against a very successful rival in Mexico.
