The win at Balaídos against Celta (0-2) ended the first round of the Championship. 19 fixtures which shed a set of data and statistics that prove the strength and the consistency shown so far by the team, leaders of the League with 44 points. A record only surpassed by the 50 points achieved in the 13/14 season and matched by Simeone’s first full campaign on the Atlético bench (12/13).

Since then, our coach has formed a solid block which bases much of its success on the defensive fortress. Our team is the least scored at the end of the first round of the Championship with only 8 goals conceded (5 at home and 3 away), the same figure recorded by Atlético in the 95/96 season of the 'double.' It happens that, twenty years later, we are back to being leaders after 19 rounds, something that has happened eight times in our history.

The defensive aspect highlights the great season of Jan Oblak, current Zamora of the Championship. In addition to having conceded just 8 goals, our goalkeeper has kept a clean sheet in 12 games (63%) and has received only 80 shots between the sticks, the lowest figure in the League. Oblak is, along with Godín, the player of the team who has played all the League minutes (1710).

The goal speaks French

In the offensive aspect, we are the team that has more strikers in its squad, a total of 12 to score 27 goals (12 at home and 15 away). Among all of them, Antoine Griezmann, top scorer of the team in the first round, stands out with 10 goals scored, followed by Yannick Carrasco, with 3. There is a fact that speaks of the importance of the goals of the French player: whenever he has scored, Atlético has not lost in the League. He is also the footballer who most shoots on goal (36 in total, 2 per game) in a team with 192 (10 per game). In this sense, we are the second team to make the most of their goals (1.63 points per goal), behind Málaga (1.71).

All this has made it possible that we are the team with more wins in the first round (14) and more points won away from home, with 22.
