Gabi unveiled as new Atlético de Madrid signing 

Joins on a four year contract

Gabriel Fernández Arenas 'Gabi' was presented as a new Atlético de Madrid player on Tuesday the 5th of July, signing a four year deal.  The presentation took place in the VIP suite of the Vicente Calderón Stadium, Director of Football, Jose Luis Perez Caminero was also present   Gabi returns to his home where he was eager and excited about the new project he will be undertaking with Gregorio Manzano. José Luis Pérez Caminero opened the event saying 'we are here to present the third addition this season, after already completing the signing of Silvio and the return of Salvi. This player needs no introduction, because it is an old acquaintance of Atlético de Madrid.'    'Gabi grew up in the academy of our and made his debute with the first team, where he played for three seasons until he left for Zaragoza. His signing means the return of a homegrown player, who knows what it means to defend our colors and our badge. At Zaragoza Gabi continued his development and became a regular in the engine and heart of the team, underlined by the fact they gave him the captain's armband, irrefutable evidence of his leadership on  and off the field,' said the Director of Football.    Caminero read the accolades from his former club Real Zaragoza, highlighting his: honor, professionalism and commitment. 'His role has been important for achieving the goals that the team was set, especially this last season in which he and his companions had to fight to the end to guarantee La Liga survival. Gabi now returns to Atlético de Madrid a more mature and experienced player,' he stressed.    In addition, the Director of Football admitted that it 'we’re especially happy to welcome him back where he’ll link up with Gregorio Manzano, the coach who gave him his debut for the club.  Gabi has an excellent opportunity to give back to the coach the confidence placed in him years ago, when he was much younger, and we believe he will succeed.'    After this first speech, it was Gabi who expressed his excitement to be wearing the red and white again. 'I am excited to return, I return to my home and that's always a plus. The decision was taken some time ago, I always wanted to return to Atlético. I’ve always had feelings for Atlético.I’ve had some good years in Zaragoza, but I've always had it in my head that it’d return. Since childhood I have live what is Atlético de Madrid and the importance of this team,' he said.    'The clubs changed a lot. Atlético de Madrid is a big club and is always fighting to be among the best. We must work hard to finish in the top four, the fans and the club deserve it,” he concluded.
