Filipe Luis: 'The key to winning lies in thinking as a group”

The Brazilian highlighted the strength of the dressing room in the last victory

Filipe Luis believes that one of the keys to earning the win in Almería likes in repeating the way they played against Villarreal. He knows that unity and solidarity on the pitch must be demonstrated in order to win the three points. We have to all play together and closer to each other in our passing lanes, be more supportive of our teammates and forget about the victory over Villarreal. We have to leave the table on the side and think about the side from Andalusia,” he assured.

The Brazilian defender thinks that it will be crucial to “find the best way to play. We haven’t lost in the last four matches. The entire team has improved. If we all help each other out and work as a unit, the team will grow and do better, on a personal level as well. We have quality in this group and we’ll get better if we all stick together.

With respect to whether the game against Villarreal was their best of the season, Filipe stated that “it wasn’t one of the best, but whenever you win you assess everything positively. On the other hand, when you lose, you only see the negative side, that three points have gotten away and nobody analyses the team’s play. Wins are important to appreciate the qualities of the group and of each player.

“You can tell on the pitch when everyone is helping out, when everyone plays as a member of a united team, thinking as a group. Against Villarreal you could notice that everyone, from those who play up top helping out in defense, and us helping those in attack, helped out everyone else. We regained our confidence and we have to continue to play like that,
he reflected.

The Brazilian left back positively evaluated the return to the score-sheet of Agüero and Forlán. “Strikers live off of goals and it’s important for them to score. I see them training well; I think that it’s important for them to get rid of that anxiety, for them to be fresh when they have scoring chances,” he asserted.

In evaluating his personal play during his first season at the ‘rojiblanco’ organization, the Brazilian said that “I’m trying to be successful here. I have big competition with Antonio López, who’s a great player. The manager decides to put on who’s playing the best in each game. Unquestionably, one always wants to play.”

Concerning the opponent that he expects to face on Saturday, Almería, Filipe stated that “they have a great squad and a great goalkeeper, who’s a good friend of mine. Their position in the table is unfair given the way they‘re playing. In their stadium, they really make things hard for their opponents. They’re a tough opponent and we’ll try to play well.”

Sergio Agüero and Jose Antonio Reyes could miss out on the derby against Real Madrid if they receive a yellow card against Almería. Filipe explained thatI don’t think that they’re thinking about the Real Madrid match. Nobody is going to hold anything back; we’re all going to give everything we have to win on Saturday.

“Nobody is thinking about Real Madrid right now. In that fixture, the pressure will be on their side, although we want to break our drought against them, as we’ll go into that game in top form,”
Filipe Luis wrapped up.
