Enrique Cerezo: “We have no margin for error if we want to reach our goal”

“We’re happy with Quique and nothing will be decided until after the season”

Enrique Cerezo, President of Atlético de Madrid, spoke to the media on Monday after attending the yearly Women’s Team visit to the Female Prison of Alcalá Meco. The main executive spoke about the visit, as well as various current affairs relating to Club Atlético de Madrid and the possible strike for next weekend.

The President first touched on the visit to the penitentiary. “We’ve been coming to this center for many years because Atlético de Madrid, as a Club, wants to promote equality.”

One of the issues he was asked about was regarding the sponsor for next season, given that the deal with Kia is coming to an end and it won’t be renewed. “Right now these things aren’t so easy because we all know about the current economic situation. We’re always working and are on the hunt. We’re not going to stop until we find something. We’re a team that has a high value and we’re working on that right now. There are plenty of candidates and I hope that we have a final one within the next week.”

With respect to this coming weekend’s match against Osasuna, the President is optimistic. “I always look at the games positively. We have to go out to win and when you do that you normally earn the victory.”

Agüero won’t be able to play in Pamplona due to sitting out a suspension for accumulation of yellow cards. “Kun is an important player in this squad, but whoever plays in his place will try to do so as well or better than him.”

Regarding whether or not there will actually be a weekend of games, Enrique Cerezo was clear. “I’m confident that the sensibility of all of the football directors and I hope that nothing changes this week and brings about a change of dates. I hope and I believe that we can play.”

Concerning the rumors that are starting to arise, as they do every year around this point, about both players and coaches, the President said that “we’re very happy with Quique Sánchez Flores and as I’ve said many times, we’re not going to talk about or decide anything.”

To finish, he acknowledged that the team’s European goal is possible, but that they can’t slip up any more. “We have no margin for error if we want to reach our goal. As soon as we make a mistake, part of our aspirations will get away. We have to be very focused and go out to win every game.”
