Baptistão: "Signing for Atletico is a dream come true"
Leo Baptistão speaks for the first time as an Atletico player. After confirming his move to Atletico, the Brazilian player is looking forward to feeling part of the team and says he is eager to start working with his teammates.
Quality in the final third, arrival and scoring ability. Leo Baptistão, August 26, 1992, is the first signing of Atletico Madrid for the season 2013/2014. The Brazilian, who until now was played for Rayo Vallecano, will wear the red and white shirt. "A dream come true" was how he acknowledged it in his first interview as an Atletico player. "I’ve fulfilled a dream I had since I was little. Playing in an elite team like Atletico. I really want to start the preseason, train and meet my new teammates," said the young striker.
His adaptation seems uncontroversial. Leo spent many years living in Madrid and has spent time with some Atleti players like Brazilian Diego Costa, Filipe and Miranda, who he spoke about. "Filipe and Diego and have complimented me on my move. I am happy because they will play with them and I'm sure I can learn a lot because they are great players. It's a big jump I'll make in my career," he says.
Baptistão knows their qualities and he knows what he can bring to a competitive squad. "I really want to get to work. My position and my mission characteristics are to make goals. This is what I will bring". It is the statement of intent from a player who describes the team he’s joining as “amazing". They have shown the level they have. Winning the Cup and getting directly qualification to the Champions. They have shown that they can fight with the best teams in Spain and be at their level."
His words showed the enthusiasm for playing at Atletico, to make their fans happy and working with Simeone. "He's an amazing coach who is showing as a technician everything he was as a player. It is an honour to be at his service and to get to know his work and methods. I can learn a lot with him," he says about his new coach.
Finally, the young player also has a message for his new fans. "I would like to thank them for the welcome. I am delighted to sign for Atletico. I feel very happy. I will leave everything on the field to try to give them a lot of joy," says a player who is convinced to leave his mark on the club.
