Fran Mérida suffers a slight left knee sprain

Atlético de Madrid completed their next-to-last training session of the week with the entire squad available as they continue to prepare for the clash with Osasuna. The ‘rojiblanco’ side knows how important this Sunday’s game is against the team from Pamplona and wants to break the bad run of results that they’ve endured in recent times at the Reyno de Navarra.

The practice began with physical exercises, after which the two first team goalkeepers, De Gea and Joel, went to a separate part of the pitch to work with goalkeepers coach Emilio Alvarez. The rest of the squad members did some strength exercises. They then moved into ball possession drills and played a small-sided game on the half-pitch. Fran Mérida provided the scare of the day during the scrimmage and had to head to the dressing room early after suffering a rough tackle from a teammate. The central midfielder suffered a big bruise on his left knee and a slight sprain of the medial collateral ligament.

In the final part of the training, Quique Sánchez Flores worked on attacking with numbers and the practice wrapped up with shots on goal. On the other hand, Sergio Asenjo took the field with physical trainer/therapist Oscar Pitillas and walked around the pitch to strengthen his surgically repaired knee.
