MATCH RECAP

Atleti wraps up 2018-19 season in Jerusalem

Our team played a friendly match against Beitar Jerusalem on Tuesday to close the 2018-19 season.

Atleti lost 2-1 at Beitar Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium on Tuesday in a friendly game against the Israeli side.

The home team took their lead through Buzaglo following a cross from the left flank. Morata had the chance to answer straight away, but his strike was saved by the keeper. Chances from Vitolo, Lemar and Thomas followed in the following minutes, but we reached the first half hour 1-0 down. An injured Diego Costa had to make way for Rodrigo, but our team kept collecting chances, the best of which was a Vitolo strike that hit the post. Just before half-time, the Israeli keeper made a fantastic save to deny a powerful header from Morata.

After the break, Griezmann came on for Koke, and we had yet another great chance inside the first two minutes as Montero headed the ball just wide. But immediately after, our team was awarded a penalty and Griezmann converted it. However, Beitar Jerusalem took the lead once again following a counter-attack. Around that time, Correa and Camello came on for Vitolo and Morata. We kept trying, but the clock was ticking and we were unable to get the equaliser. Just after the 70-minute mark, Arias made way for Carlos Isaac. Our team searched for the goal until the last minute, but the game ultimately finished 2-1 as Atleti wrapped up the 2018-19 season.
