CÁDIZ 1-4 ATLETI

Atleti showcase to win the Carranza Trophy

Goals from Morata, Saúl, Wass and Griezmann give the Red & White team their eleventh Ramón de Carranza trophy.

Atleti won a new edition of the Carranza Trophy after a 1-4 victory, making it eleven editions that we have won the trophy.

After a slow start from both teams, it was Álvaro Morata who opened the scoring after a great finish at the opposite post from David Gil. A great through ball from Antoine Griezmann and a change of pace broke the space with Fali and was enough for the Spain international striker.

It was Saúl who took charge of it on the stroke of half-time, after a great assist from João Félix to Griezmann's cross. The Frenchman's second assist and Atleti second goal at the end of the first half.

After the break, another of the protagonists of the match, Daniel Wass, was in charge of scoring a goal to keep the party going at the Nuevo Mirandilla. An approach from the Red & White centre-back to the edge of the area and a few metres out were enough for him to charge his leg and send it straight into the top corner of David Gil's net.

Antoine Griezmann put the icing on the cake for his side with a perfect header from Sergio Díez's measured cross, the academy player putting in an outstanding performance in the Carranza Trophy.

Cádiz could have grabbed a late consolation goal when Álvaro Giménez's great finish from a low cross by Mabil, was enough for the home side to seal the win.

Next stop, Sunday 7 August, for the final pre-season match against Juventus before kicking off the 22/23 LaLiga season.
