Atleti were handed a 1-0 defeat by Betis on Sunday in Seville after a Canales goal from the penalty spot.
Very early on, Oblak made an extraordinary save following a Betis corner. The Slovenian keeper flew to deny the header. But our team started improving as the game progressed, and after ten minutes we had our first big chance. A very nice counter-attack from Griezmann and Morata ended up with the Spaniard shooting, but Pau López saved it.
Both sides tried to attack and dominate possession in the first half, with Betis' supporters cheering the home team. Atleti didn't back down, though, and we played most of the time in their half of the pitch, pressing high and trying to find space between Quique Setién's three centre-backs. However, we were unable to get the our first goal and we reached half-time with a goalless draw.
Simeone decided to make the first change during the break: Arias, who had picked up a yellow card, made way for Filipe Luis, who returned following his injury. With this substitution, Juanfran was moved to right-back, having played the first half on the left flank. Griezmann had a good chance five minutes in, but his strike went wide. The Frenchman's shot was followed by a possible penalty on Morata when the striker was through on goal, but the referee gave a corner instead. A few minutes later, though, Betis were awarded a penalty and Canales converted it. We were 1-0 down with 25 minutes to go. Right away, our team had a fantastic chance to equalise. Griezmann took an extraordinary shot from outside the box, but unfortunately the ball hit the post.
Atleti were attacking more and more, playing most of the time in Betis' half of the pitch. During the second 45 minutes, after Arias' substitution, Lemar and Correa also made way for Vitolo and Kalinic. We were all out for the equaliser. Unfortunately, we were unable to get our goals despite several decent chances, and we lost our second LaLiga match this season.
