Sergio Asenjo appeared before the media at the end of the first leg of the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League Atletico after the defeat by Rubin Kazan. "We struggled to get into the game. We came out looking for an early goal but that went against usl. At a goal down against a Russian team is hard to get back in to the game. In the second half the team has changed deserved more from the match", said the former Valladolid keeper.

The goalkeeper spoke of the unfortunate action that led to the second goal. "We knew it was the last chance and the coach has told me to go up. Surprisingly the referee went on to play 30 or 40 seconds over time. It was adiificult end to the match but we know that Atletico Madrid can go to Russia and turn it around", said Asenjo.

After the second consecutive defeat, the players will work to turn around the situation and know what is the formula that has brought them this far. "In the last two games the team has bot been at the pace of the game in the opening minutes. We have to change the chip and again demonstrate that we’re at it from the off" he said.
