Aguirre: “Atlético are in very good hands”

“I don’t have any advantage for having managed Atlético”

Javier Aguirre will cross paths with an Atlético de Madrid side that he knows well. The Mexican manager assured that “all of us managers have been questioned at one time. Even Guardiola was doubted at his debut in Soria. Atlético is in unbeatable hands. Quique gave them two titles in a short time-period and that’s very difficult to achieve. He deserves all the respect and support of the fans, since I think that Atlético are in very good hands.”

‘El Vasco’ also doesn’t believe that having coached Atlético for three years gives him an advantage for Saturday’s clash. “I know the players as well as Quique knows ours. It’s not any type of advantage because there have been changes.”

Aguirre has prepared hard for the encounter and is considering changing his system and presenting a team with a five-man defence, which would include the debut of Paulo Da Silva, their last signing during the winter market. “Everything about Atlético concerns me, but we’re playing at home and we’re obligated to win all of our games here. They have a deadly attack and three players up front who strike fear in defences, so we have to try and make sure they don’t receive good passes,” explained the Zaragoza head coach.
