ATLÉTICO FACES A COMPLICATED GAME AGAINST A REAL SOCIEDAD ON THE RISE

We visit Anoeta before the break

After the wins against Málaga in LaLiga and Rostov in the Champions League, both at home, it’s time to visit the always complicated Real Sociedad at Anoeta. Griezmann returns to what was his home.

Atlético de Madrid visits Real Sociedad after the two home wins, one against Málaga in LaLiga and another one in the Champions League against Rostov. Griezmann returns to what was his home and against his former team, against which he has scored in three of the four games he has played both at Anoeta and the Calderón. The French striker arrives from just scoring, after the brace scored against the Russians, a performance that has earned him the nomination for Player and Goal of the Week. Two goals that certified the team’s pass to the last 16 of the Champions League, something that Atlético achieves for the fourth consecutive season and for the first time in its 113-year history.

The team from San Sebastián comes to this game ecstatic after winning the Basque derby against Álava at Anoeta (3-0) and comfortably beating Leganés at Butarque (0-2). It will therefore be a complicated rival and, as usual, no matter the result in past seasons, will make it difficult for our team. Diego Pablo Simeone noted in press conference the evolution the rival team has had in recent matches which have led them to be sixth in the Europa League. Simeone has called 20 players for this match. Savic, who was sent off against Málaga for a double yellow, will be able to play since the Appeals Committee has annulled the second card that meant his sending-off, therefore allowing his name to be on the squad list.
