EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE TO A CLUB LEGEND

Wanda Metropolitano pays tribute to Juanfran

Our former full-back received a warm welcome from the fans and his ex-teammates ahead of Saturday’s match against Osasuna.

Atleti legend Juanfran Torres was paid tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano ahead and at half-time of Saturday’s LaLiga match against Osasuna.

Our former player – the 17th with the most games in our club’s history with 355 – bid farewell to our home fans, which he was unable to do last season.

Before the match, Juanfran signed autographs at the Wanda Metropolitano store, and minutes before kick-off he was given a guard of honour by both sets of players – having also played for Osasuna. He was then presented with a replica of our badge by Koke.

At half-time, club president Enrique Cerezo presented him with a Gold & Diamond insignia in the Presidential Box, where our former full-back was accompanied by many Atleti legends.

The Spaniard arrived at Atleti from Osasuna in December 2010. Over his nine years at our club, Juanfran won one LaLiga, two Europa Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup. He was one of our captains during the last of these title wins – the UEFA Super Cup, which was won in Tallinn against Real Madrid.
