At the same time as the first team makes its debut in the 2016-2017 Champions League, this Tuesday the journey of the Youth A also begins in Eindhoven in the UEFA Youth League; a competition that for the fourth consecutive season brings together the best U19 European teams.

A total of 64 clubs, among which we can find Atlético de Madrid again, which has never missed a single edition of the tournament and has always advanced to its group stage. A group stage that in this campaign will have us play against PSV Eindhoven, Bayern Munich and Rostov, just like their senior counterparts will play against each other in the top continental competition.

"It is a beautiful and important challenge. We will try to give a good image and go as far as possible. What I know for sure is that we are going to do our best in all the fields, starting with PSV’s. We are going to fight to be first in our group. That is the objective," said Manolo Cano, coach of the Youth A whose team in this tournament will be reinforced by several players from the B squad.

A group leadership, which if achieved, implies a direct qualification for the last 16 of the tournament, while the second place forces to play a previous one-match play-off at the home of a national champion whose first team does not play the Champions League. A one-match formula that also decides the round of sixteen, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final, taking place these last two qualifying rounds at the Colovray Stadium in Nyon (Switzerland).
