BAKU, CAPITAL OF AZERBAIJAN HOST THIS NEW COMPETITION IN 2015

The team will wear the logo of the first European Games against Getafe

Villa, Arda and Costa, on behalf of the squad showed their support to the project in a video that was projected to unveil the logo at the 42nd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees, held in Rome this morning.

The team will wear tonight against Getafe a new image on the front of the shirt. Ours men will carry on their chest the logo of the first European Games to be held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan in 2015. The action will serve to close the day of presentation of the logo, which started on Saturday morning at the 42nd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees held in Rome. There, the Azerbaijan sports minister, Azad Rahimov unveiled the design that will identify the sporting event.

Diego Costa, David Villa and Arda Turan, on behalf of the squad posed with the shirt that will be worn tonight at the Vicente Calderon in a video in which the team showed their support for the event as part of the strategic alliance between the club and Azerbaijan.

"From Atletico Madrid we support the Baku Games", said the number 19. Meanwhile, the Turkish midfielder was "proud" of holding an event of this magnitude in Azerbaijan, a twinned nation with the Turkey. "The European Games will unite countries and people through sport", said the Turkish captain. Finally, Villa noted the importance of the games as a vehicle for understanding among nations. "The Games will encourage many young people to engage in sport and the Olympic spirit throughout Europe", said the Spanish international.

Five young Azeris footballers, who enjoy a stay in Spain until December thanked the training program offered by the club through its Academy, accompanying first team players in the audiovisual piece. They were excited to host the event in their country and said it would be "a great opportunity for Azeri athletes".

The new logo combines five key elements that have shaped the culture and ancient and contemporary aspirations of the host country, including the flame, the water, the mythical bird Simurgh, the carpet and the granada. Logo designer, Adam Yunisov acknowledged during the presentation in Rome: "I wanted to reflect the passion and aspirations that people of Azerbaijan has ahead of these first European Games. We want to be innovative and we have inspired the spirit of sport". The Yunisov logo design represents the natural beauty, culture and heritage of the country, in addition to the vitality of Baku , one of the most emerging economies and European cities.

The rapid progress in the planning of the Games has impressed experts in international events and the members of the Coordination Committee of European Games, which conducted an inspection last month.

"The pace and scale of planning we are having is a tribute to the commitment of the Government of Azerbaijan, the Organizing Committee, communities, local businesses in Baku and the European Olympic Committee, under the leadership of President Hickey", said Jim Scherr, Director of the Operations Committee of the Games in Baku (BEGOC).

In addition, Patrick Hickey (President of the European Olympic Committee) said that "Europe for the first time, will have its own continental multi-sport event. For many European athletes,vthis event will be an important step on the road to someday representing their country in the Olympic Games".

The Minister Rahimov said the benefits of the bond and the legacy of the European Games will be significant and will bring big changes. "These games will bring new benefits to the country in terms of transport, economy and infrastructure for communities of Azerbaijan".

The Baku 2015 European Games will be the first in the history of Europe and will involve more than 5,400 participants from 49 European nations through 18 sports.

The games are organized and regulated by the European Olympic Committees (EOC). Were instituted in the General Assembly on 9 December 2012 EOC in Rome (Italy), where the vast majority of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe voted for the creation of the European Games.
