The ‘rojiblanco’ players lament their European elimination against Bayer
Forlán and Valera ask for support of their fans in their upcoming matches
The Atlético de Madrid players were saddened by their elimination from the Europa League, but they know that they still have two competitions (Copa del Rey and La Liga) in which they have to give their all to reach their goals.
After the game, Juan Valera stated that “everything was lost on the day we lost to Aris. We didn’t depend on ourselves, but even so we played a great match against a tough team. Honestly, I think that we were eliminated with our heads held high. I think that we deserved the victory.
“We have to resolve this situation by winning the next two matches against Málaga and Espanyol. It’s also very important to turn the page as quickly as possible and forget about this elimination,” assured the right back.
Valera highlighted that “we started off well and played a good game. We did enough to have won and didn’t ever think about the Aris match. The only thing that we wanted was to win and we even had a chance to do so in the final minutes.
“We need the supporters now more than ever. We have to give everything we have in the two competitions we have left,” acknowledged the defender.
For his part, Diego Forlán pointed out that “it’s not the first time that we’ve been eliminated from a competition. We’ve been eliminated other years and in the end we’ve reached the goals set at the beginning of the year. We have to fight to achieve them and try to forget about this as soon as possible.
“We knew that it was going to be complicated because we lost everything when we played against Aris. We depended on other opponents, but even so we gave our all to try and win. We played well in the first half and could have gone into the half with the lead,” the Uruguayan wrapped up.
