The ‘rojiblanco’ players believe that Sevilla’s accuracy was decisive

Tiago: “We reacted in the second half, but were lacking goals”

Atlético players Tiago and Filipe Luis were the ones to speak in the mixed zone. Both agreed that Sevilla’s accuracy in the first half was fundamental. Their objective is none other than to put themselves back together as quickly as possible for the next match.

Tiago was categorical in speaking about the change of systems. “We didn’t start the match stuck in and we didn’t play well. We played with a system that, for me, was to help us, to be stronger and to have more men in the midfield. We didn’t carry it out well and they scored two goals in the first half and it was tough to come back in one of these matches against Sevilla. We reacted in the second half, we had chances, we played the ball much better, but we were unable to score and they had a big lead to put the match away. We tried until the end but it was impossible. Surely when it was 0-0 the save that Palop made on Fran would have changed the match if it had been a goal because it would have boosted our confidence, but we were unable to score. Sevilla scored two goals in hardly ten minutes and things got really complicated. When we were down 3-1 we were saying on the pitch that we had a chance to fight back because Sevilla got nervous and we created chances. But if you don’t score, time passes and it’s really hard to come back,” he stated.

Filipe Luis spoke in terms similar to those of his teammate. “Sevilla were better. They were able to finish off their chances. We have to recover as soon as possible and get that spark back that we had at the beginning of the season. Now we have to work hard during the league break, get our act together and come back with another mentality and in high spirits. We knew that this match was going to be complicated. We reacted, as we did against Bayer, as after a weaker first half we played stronger in the second. We have to try to correct that because the team has to play well for the full 90 minutes. We have to work hard during these two weeks so that it doesn’t happen again,” he wrapped up.
