After the triumphant debut of Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, Saúl Ñíguez, the scorer in Atlético’s triumph, said, "The win was hard-fought. We know that the first match of the group stage is always very important. We have begun winning and, for that, we are very happy. We must continue working and thinking about the next game."

The Brazilian Filipe Luis commented that "It has been a complicated match at this stadium. They are three very important points in a group that is also very difficult. The team has played a great match with the lines close together. We know that we are capable of winning on any pitch."

Jan Oblak was one of the stars of the game in Eindhoven. Atlético’s goalkeeper said: "The final of the Champions League is in the past. We lost after the penalties and those are a bit of a lottery. I saved none then and today I did. What’s important today is that we won the game. It was a very hard game but we won three very important points."

Kevin Gameiro noted that "We have had a good start in this phase of the Champions League. We know that it's very important to start well because it’s not an easy pitch."
