The champions begin the Cup with a win
Arda Turan twice, Raúl García and Villa scored the goals against Sant Andreu in the first game of the knockout phase of the Copa del Rey. The champion began a big title defense.

A year ago Atletico Madrid began the tournament with a win over Jaen 0-3, this time they ended up winning 0-4 against another Segunda B tema, Sant Andreu , who put in a creditable performance, but they could not handle the intensity, quality and determination of Simeone’s men.
Atletico Madrid did not want to leave anything to chance and took a giant step to defending the title won last May 17th at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid. The first step this time was in the Narcis Sala Stadium against Sant Andreu.
Atletico came out switched on and in the first minute Raul Garcia warned of what was to come. The midfielder had the first shot on goal and it was a prelude to what would come before the quarter hour mark, when Filipe Luis played in the number 8 who scored with a shot inside the area to make it 1-0.
The goal knocked Sant Andreu and Atletico Madrid took control of the tie. Atletico wanted to add more and did so with the second goal in a superb team move with a pass from Manquillo to Koke who played in to Arda Turan inside the area where the Turk beat Morales.
The match and the tie was already in Atletico hand although the Catalans tried to get back in to the game but Simeone’s men constantly stole the ball but unfortunately did not get the third goal in the first half although there were occasions for Raúl García, Adrian and Tiago.
After the break , Atletico went looking for that third goal and only had to wait just over ten minutes. The goal came in the 56th, with spectacular team play ending in another Arda Turan finish. The move started with a pass from Manquillo and ended with an exquisite finish from the Turkish midfielder after the involvement of Tiago, Raul García and Adrián.
The home side tried to hit back but two consecutive stops from Aranzubia kept them at bay. Atletico got the match back under control and Simeone made three changes, brining on Villa, Diego Costa and Guilavogui. It was the Spaniard who got the fourth goal after another good team move that ended with a one-two between Villa and Diego Costa before a perfect finish from the number 9, giving Atletico a good cushion going in to the second leg on the 18th of this month at the Calderon at 19:30. Atletico Madrid 's Copa del Rey began as it ended with victory.
