Simeone: "I’m proud of the team that I have"
Simeone spoke very well of his team. He said that this match was important after the elimination from the Champions League and that the group once again measured up.
Diego Pablo Simeone said at press conference that "It has been a needed victory in the League because the Champions League stage has ended, where we had a very nice competition. We give a big step in the League trying to compete to finish among the best in the Spanish League, which is possibly the best of European football. And if Real Madrid and Barcelona get to the final, we would be talking about being in the best League in the world. We're right behind them, bothering them a bit, with humility and always working and competing more to recover fast after the other day’s difficult defeat."
He stressed that "What I liked most of the team is the reaction to the hit of the other day and the change from the first to the second half, in which we were more consistent, more intense, more determined. In the first half we had bursts and in the second we were more consistent. This team works and competes very well. I have a lot of men within the team. We will continue competing no matter what other people think."
He acknowledges that his team knows how to overcome adversity because "It is not easy to react. Last year we lost the Champions League final in May and won the Spanish Super Cup in August. And on Wednesday we lost and today we are winning. The team has men and when you have men within a group, it responds. I said it the other day in the defeat and I have said it after each victory. I am very proud of the team that I have because it competes and works. What counts are facts and they are there, to try, once again, to keep us among the top three of the League."
