Simeone : "Football is now and we need to win to stay where we are"

Diego Pablo Simeone, Atletico Madrid coach appeared before the media to talk about the game against Celta. The technician said it is an important match and that the points have the same value as the game in the Bernabeu.

Atletico coach made it clear that "we’ve been working together for some time now. It is normal for people to live in the moment, be happy and enjoy what’s happening with the squad. We have to think about what we have to concentrate on. We are coming up against a good team, who has a very good idea how they play with a very brave coach, with a well-defined identity and game plan. We cannot start the game slowly as we’re coming up against a tough opponent."

Celta was a tough opponent last season and we only won with a goal from Adrian. Simeone says that "since last year they have changed their coach twice. They are a team characterised by a good style of play, good combinations, with Nolito on the left plays very deep, with Charles up front he can do some harm, they have Dehli Khron who is always dangerous, Augusto Fernández is always a player with personality and they have a good keeper. We always need our best team out to counter them."

Regarding the possibility that Diego Costa could play with the Spanish national side, he said "surely that should motivate him even more."

When asked if there was more room for improvement in the team, he responded emphatically: "Yes. Like in any team, we have strengths and weaknesses. We try to hide our flaws and enhance our strengths. Where we need to improve is in our faults and we need to be even stronger in our virtues."

Finally , he noted that "the hardest thing in football is to keep the ambition, humility and collective effort . If you do that, you get the best out of a squad. Our aspiration is to get to that place. We played in Colombia, Argentina, Copa del Rey and Champions League. I don’t look at the opponent from any other angle than the 3 points we’re trying to win. And tomorrow the three points are the same as at the Bernabeu."
