PRESS CONFERENCE

Simeone: “Copenhagen are a tough and difficult rival"

Our manager and José María Giménez spoke to the press about our upcoming match against Copenhagen.

Before our UEFA Europa League Round of 32 clash against Copenhagen, José María Giménez and Diego Pablo Simeone spoke to the press.

The Europa League motivates Giménez and he believes the team is ready to give it their all against Copenhagen.

“For us, the Europa League is an important challenge,” our centre back said. “I’m thinking about helping the team, which is the most important thing.”

Meanwhile, our boss expects a tough match against a gritty and organized Copenhagen.

“We’ll have to seize control of the match,” he said. “They defend as a group and play with a 4-4-2. When they stop defending, they create their play on the wings and we’ll have to be ready to defend those kind of situations."

Diego Godin recovered from his injury in a prompt manner, which surprised the coaching staff and Simeone is happy to have the Uruguayan centre back fit and healthy.

“Diego Godin recovered well. He’s a very tough person and he’s always committed to the team,” he continued. “Diego trained well and knowing that Copenhagen will play in the air, I absolutely believe in Diego and how great his style of play will definitely help in tomorrow’s match.”

Our coach played in the Telia Parken Stadium as a player and recalls the impressive atmosphere.

“Copenhagen are a tough and difficult rival and they’ll probably play with a lot of motivation in their stadium,” he said. “I played here with Lazio a while ago and the atmosphere was very beautiful.”
