ARGENTINE CHOSEN AS BEST COACH IN LEAGUE 12/13; Courtois, BEST GOALKEEPER

Simeone and Courtois shine at the annual gala of the LFP

Atletico were prominent in the Professional Football League Gala. Diego Pablo Simeone took the trophy for best coach of last year and Thibaut Courtois was named best goalkeeper.

Technical and outstanding players of the 2012-13 campaign were present at the 5th Awards Gala for the Professional Football League (LFP). Atletico Madrid played a major role in this event picking up the awards for 'Best Coach' and 'Best Goalkeeper' in the 2012-13 season.

Diego Pablo Simeone won the award for best coach in the 2012-13 season thanks to a vote from all the players in the top flight of Spanish football. The Argentine is posting record numbers as the leader of the team. During the past year, Simeone took his team to third place in League cementing a place in the current edition of the Champions League. Our team rounded off the season with the Copa El Rey title, beating Real Madrid in the final on the 17th of May at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Atletico’s role at the event stared when Thibaut Courtois who after clinching the Zamora trophy for goalkeeping last season (conceding 29 goals in 37 games), took the stage to accept the award for the best goalkeeper in La Liga ahead of tough competitors the likes of Victor Valdes and Willy Caballero.

The Belgian international became the youngest winner of the Zamora and the sixth winner in thehistory of Atletico Madrid. More than enough for the expert committee to include his amongst the three finalists and for the majority of the coaches to vote him as winner.

The gala was also attended by Leo Baptistão nominee for League Newcomer for his sensational campaign at Rayo Vallecano. Gabi, team captain, and Enrique Cerezo, president of the club were also in attendance in a night of celebration for the successes of Atletico Madrid. The event, held in the Auditorium hotel in the capital of Spain, was also attended by Vice President of the club Antonio Alonso, Atletico general manager and vice president of the LFP Clemente Villaverde, and the president of Atletico Madrid Féminas, Lola Romero.
