PSV, a historic of Dutch football
We will play against PSV Eindhoven again, the first team against which we played in our return to the Champions League in 2008 and which we beat in the Netherlands (0-3) and in Madrid (2-1).
The Philips Sport Vereniging, known in the world of football as PSV Eindhoven is an old acquaintance of our team. We met in the Champions League Group Stage of the 2008/2009 season, with Javier Aguirre as Atlético’s coach. We beat at the Philips Stadion by 0-3 (two goals from Aguero and one from Maniche), on the first round, and played in an empty Vicente Calderón, closed due to a sanction from UEFA after the match against Olympique de Marseille, the fifth round match, with a 2-1 win for our team, with goals from Simao and Maxi Rodríguez.
PSV won the League, the Eredivisie, last season. To reach the round of 16 in this year's edition, the Dutch team has added wins in the Group Stage their matches at the Philips Stadion, beating Manchester United (2-1), Wolfsburg (2-0) and CSKA Moscow (2-1). Away, it only tied at Old Trafford (0-0), losing in Moscow against CSKA (3-2) and in Wolfsburg (2-0).
