Míchel: “It’s a crucial match for both teams’ aspirations”

'Atlético have players that resolve a match by themselves”

José Miguel González 'Míchel' attended to the media on Tuesday morning, and the Getafe manager commented on his impressions regarding Wednesday’s fixture against Atlético de Madrid. “I’d like there to be lots of goals, for the show, and if they fall on our side, then that would be much better. It’s a crucial match for both teams’ aspirations. Beating Atlético de Madrid is a vital challenge. It made us very happy to do so last year,” he stated.

The head coach of Getafe didn’t hide his feelings before the match-up with the ‘rojiblanco’ side. “I don’t play anymore, but for me it’s always been a high-tension game. When I was a player, I preferred to play against Atlético than against Barcelona. I played in lots of derbies in the reserve squads and we know about the rivalry well,” he stated. Likewise, Míchel didn’t hesitate to praise the red-and-white side, which he considers to be “a grand club in Spain and in Europe.”

For this Wednesday’s match at 8 pm at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Míchel assured that he expects a “good Atlético side. They’re a strong team, with enough on the group and individual levels for us not to be relaxed. They have players who can resolve a game by themselves, even if they’re not playing well. They’re a great squad and circumstantial problems can happen to anyone, including them. Last year they were playing poorly and ended up winning two titles,” he argued.

The manager from Madrid didn’t just heap praise on the Atlético de Madrid players, but also on their coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, highlighting that 'he’s an excellent manager. He’s good not just for what he’s done, but because of the clubs where he’s been. That’s enough of an endorsement.”
