Koke: “We have to win to try and avoid the Europa League play-in round”

The player acknowledged that this has been a special year for him

Jorge Resurrección Merodio ‘Koke’ assured that the ‘rojiblanco’ team will go to Mallorca with the intention of winning, in order to try and avoid having to play in the Europa League qualifying round. “We’re going to go for the three points and try to finish as well as possible, because qualifying directly isn’t the same as having to play a play-in round,” he asserted.

The young footballer admitted that “one always likes to have a few more days of holiday. Besides, we want to qualify directly for the Europa League without having to play a qualifying round.”

Concerning the Mallorca he expects to come up against on Saturday, Koke assured that “I didn’t expect to be facing them in their current situation. We have to go there to win; we don’t care about the other teams. We’re going to fight for the three points and make it to Europe directly.”

With respect to the season he’s having on a personal level, Koke assured that “it’s been special for me. I’ve really enjoyed all the minutes the coach has been giving me and I have to keep working so that I continue to get playing time next season.”

The central midfielder doesn’t know whether he’s going to play in the Under-21 or the Under-20 World Cup with the Spanish National Team this summer. “I haven’t heard anything. I’m waiting for news,” he reflected.

To finish, Koke assessed the work done by Quique Sánchez Flores with the ‘rojiblanco’ home grown players and said that “the gaffer has bet on the academy players. The Football Academy is very happy with him, as he’s called up a lot of players. He’s given the Club two titles and I think he’d done a good job.”
