TRAINED IN BARCELONA’S FARM TEAM
Jofre Mateu González (24-1-1980, Lleida), commonly known as Jofre, is another of the Spanish players who belong to Atlético de Kolkata. Trained in Barcelona’s farm team, he has played in several Spanish teams such as Mallorca, Levante, Murcia, Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, Valladolid and Girona. It will be his first experience outside of our country.

Jofre is currently carrying out the pre-season with Atlético de Kolkata and has already given signs of his quality in the friendlies he’s playing with his team, by scoring some goals. The player from Cataluña notes that "I've played in several teams but I’d never left the country. It appealed to me, this option appeared and I'm excited".

He considers that playing in Atlético de Kolkata is "an interesting challenge for me. Going to a League which is brand new, the Indian Super League, and being a part of one of the teams aspiring to win the title is a nice challenge. We are also a franchise of a great Club such as Atlético de Madrid and that gives you more responsibility. And having to promote football in India is another added responsibility. We have to contribute and it’s something that I like".

Having a Spanish coach, Antonio López Habas, and several Spanish players is also important for Jofre because "it helps, not having to go alone. But we have to become a group, regardless of nationalities, to help the team achieve its goals. Because of this, it’s perfect to be concentrated in Los Ángeles de San Rafael and during the month we’re staying here, we’ll get to know each other better and thoroughly prepare for the championship".

The team's goal is to win the League, although there will be other European franchise Clubs that also bet on winning with the arrival of important players. "They are trying to make it into a competition that engages the fan. That’s why I said that it’s another appeal. Logically, Atlético de Kolkata appears with the intention of winning the competition. And we are going to go for it".
