Griezmann, Lucas and Lemar become the first Atlético players to win the World Cup

Our three French players have made history. Congrats, lads!

No matter what, an Atlético was going to be crowned 2018 FIFA World Cup Champion, as Sime Vrsaljko's Croatia faced Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernández and Thomas Lemar's France. In the end, France ended up winning the tournament and Griezmann, Lucas and Lemar converted themselves in the first Atlético players to win the World Cup, while playing for our club.

France won the tournament in spectacular fashion after topping Group C, knocking out Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium and finishing the tournament unbeaten. Griezmann and Lucas were key in France's World Cup glory, while Lemar was a solid option from the bench for 'Les Bleus'.

Griezmann was been named the MVP thrice so far in the tournament and scored four goals and gave two assists. In the round of 16, our forward opened the scoring against Argenina, while he assisted the first and scored the second against Argentina. He also gave a key assist in France's 1-0 win against Belgium to qualify for the final. In the final, Griezmann's free-kick ended uup going into the net after touching Mario Mandzukic and he later scored France's second. On the other hand, Lucas has been fundamental to France's solid defense in the tournament. He's played in all of France's matches and has been great both defensively and offensively.

All three players represented Atlético de Madrid in the best possible way in the World Cup and we're immensely proud of their accomplishment. We're also proud of Vrsaljko and his great work in leading Croatia to its best-ever finish in the World Cup.
