Griezmann, Golden Boot of the Euro2016
Atlético’s forward has been the scoring reference of the French national team, runner-up in the Euro2016. He scored six goals with "Les bleus," which made him the top scorer of the competition.
Antoine Griezmann has been one of the absolute stars of this European Championship, in which the French team finished runner-up after losing to Portugal in the final (1-0). The bleu striker scored 6 goals in the six matches played, in a total of 555 minutes, to become the tournament’s Golden Boot.
Our player was critical in the match against Albania, a match in which he came off the bench in the second half and scored the 1-0 in the last minute. His participation was also key in the last 16, when the French '7' scored the two goals that meant France’s comeback against Ireland (2-1) and the pass to the quarter-finals. And against Iceland, he scored the fourth French goal and assisted in the second and third in France’s thrashing (5-2). And lastly, in the semi-final, he scored another double to beat Germany on the way to the final of Paris.
Griezmann follows David Villa (2008), who also wore our colours, and Fernando Torres (2012), teammate of the French in Atlético, as the Euro’s Golden Boot.
Our forward confirmed in the final phase the scoring instinct he had shown in the months leading up to the European Championship when he scored with his national team in the two friendlies against the Netherlands and Armenia.
The top scoring Griezmann
To these numbers we have to add what he has achieved this season with our club. The Frenchman has scored 32 goals and given 7 assists in 54 official games with the red and white jersey in the best scoring season of his sporting career. As a whole, between the national team and our club, Griezmann totals 40 goals. Previously, his best record was in the 2014/2015 season, when he finished the year with 25 goals.
