After 16 days of hard work, it was time to get back on a pitch. Atletico travelled to El Burgo de Osma to play the first Jesús Gil y Gil Memorial Trophy against Numancia.
With a starting lineup very recognizable, Demichelis made his debut for Atletico starting the game. Pressure and bite was in the script provided by Simeone and in the opening 10 minutes it began to bear fruit. A long ball to Diego Costa saw the score opened.
The Brazilian striker began well and his next opportunity came not long after. Mario won the ball in midfield and played it in to Costa who made it 2-0 in the 16th minute.
In the second half, Simeone changed the whole 11 players which brough the debut of Leo, in addition to the youth players Milla and Nacho. Dani Aquino marked his introduction with a goal from a free kick to make it 3-0.
Numancia pulled one back through Palenca in the 66th minute before but Leo extended the lead again scoring with his head from a corner. In the 70th minute a penalty tucked awayby Palenca saw the game finish 4-2 to Alteti.
With 15 minutes left, Simeone brought in Alejo Ivan, the fifth player to make his debut in the match. Nothing would change from that moment although Raul Garcia hit the crossbar. Thus, Tiago collected the trophy that marked the first Jesús Gil & Gil Memorial champion.
