Gabi: "The goal this year is to maintain the same level"
The Atletico captain appeared at a press conference after practice to offer his views on the preseason, the objectives and the incorporation of this summer in Los Angeles de San Rafael.
After the morning session of training, the captain of Atletico Madrid, Gabi, appeared before the media at the Hotel Tryp Náyade, in Los Angeles de San Rafael, to give his opinions concerning the work done during the preseason and the new additions.
The captain said it is too early to estimate what the physical level of the squad is but the most important thing is, no doubt, to maintain last year's level to achieve success. "I think the arrival of David and Martin wil greatly strengthen the squad. We should continue with the same level of last year and see that this is the beginning of this", he said.
"The goal of this year is the same as last year. Getting back in the Champions League is essential for economic stability and further strengthening of the team to find the stability we seek. The League and cup in there to try to get as far as possible. Last year we won a very important title for the club and this year we want to continue with our feet on the ground. We know how difficult it is but let's go step by step",said the captain.
Gabi did not close the door to any more incorporation to the squad. "The president continues to work for players who can bring improvements to the team but the four additions put us in good stead and compensate very well what we have", he said. He also commented on the physical state of Villa, saying that "he comes from a team that touches the ball a lot but he is psyched at the new philosophy. We’re helping him to adapt as quickly as possible to our way."
"The arrival of Villa helps because he is a global player in Spain, which makes people identify more with him. His numbers speak for themselves and it is a great transaction for us". concluded the captain.
