PRESS RELEASE

FIFA and Club Atlético de Madrid agree on a procedural calendar before CAS

In the appeal procedure before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in relation to the decision notified by the FIFA Appeal Committee on 8th September 2016 imposing, inter alia, a transfer ban on Atlético de Madrid, both parties have agreed on a procedural calendar in order to allow CAS to render a final reasoned decision by 1st June 2017.

Atlético de Madrid waived its right to seek the precautionary suspension of the ban for the next winter transfer period following its initial request for the proceedings to be concluded by the first semester of 2017, and FIFA’s subsequent request to waive said right. Even though Atlético de Madrid is completely unmovable in its position that the transfer ban is unjustified, the club has decided to waive its right to seek the precautionary suspension for the next winter transfer period so as to ensure a procedural calendar that allows Atlético de Madrid to fully present its appeal, while giving CAS sufficient time to thoroughly review all the documents, consider all the arguments and finalize the legal argument before rendering its final decision.

Due to the confidentiality of the proceedings, the parties will not make any further comments on the arbitration prior to the final decision has been made.
