David Villa: "We are very happy with the work we have done this preseason"

The ‘Guaje’ spoke in the mixed zone after the game in Gran Canaria. On his debut, David Villa proved to be the Atletico goal man although he said that there is a lot of work to do to keep improving.

David Villa know the feeling of scoring a goal in the red and white shirt of Atletico Madrid. On the day of his debut, he opened the scoring with a stunning effort. Content with the premiere and the victory he said each day he feels more integrated in the squad. "After the training all this week I am getting better and I'm very happy and very pleased that everything is going well. Slowly I'm getting used to the team and it is very clear system and it has been good to play these minutes with my teammates. Now I must keep working."

A striker lives for goals and what better way to start your career with Atletico that getting one. "For a striker the most important thing is to score goals and it is important scoring a goal on your debut. I am very happy because we worked hard this preseason."

The Asturian striker left the Gran Canaria Stadium amid cheers, a gesture that he wanted to thank the fans. "I'm happy that people recognize me and it's my job to be proud of that and th ovation I got when I left the field," he said.

Villa has been training on a personal plan in preseason and is convinced that having waited for the debut has been a wise decision. "The work in preseason has been very good and I feel good physically. It was something that we had spoken about because as you know I have not been on the tour and stop in Madrid to do extra work and it was best to wait to make my debut here."

The League is just around the corner and the Spaniard was excited to officially start competing with his new club. "Now the League begins and we are keen to challenge in all competitions. It's just around the corner and we have very difficult games both in the league and the Super Cup. We all looking to start in the best way possible," he concluded.
