Our Chairman Enrique Cerezo collected in Madrid today at noon the ‘Gold Plate of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit' awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports to Atlético de Madrid in their 2014 edition.

Miguel Cardenal, President of the Superior Council of Sports (CSD) and Chancellor of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, was in charge of presenting Atlético’s Chairman this award for the Club, the highest sporting distinction granted in Spain.

The agency chose Atlético "taking into account the merits and circumstances that concur in the sporting and professional history" of the team, which in 2014 became League Champion and was runner-up in the Champions League.

The award ceremony of distinctions of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit distinctions took place at the Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Centre, in Madrid.
