Atlético de Madrid return to work with their sights set on Levante

Tuesday’s session was marked by absences

The Club Atlético de Madrid first squad returned to practice on Tuesday afternoon with their sights set on this coming Sunday’s match against Levante at the Calderón (7 pm). Those who were starters against Espanyol carried out an alternative session in the gym, with the exception of De Gea, who did specific work with the goalkeepers under the orders of Emilio Álvarez for half an hour. Three Atlético B players, Iago, Atienza and Míchel, and one Atlético de Madrid Juvenil División de Honor player, Javi Rey, trained with the first team.

The rest of the group did strength work in the gym for half an hour, then moved out onto the pitch for an hour and a quarter for some 4v2s, finishing drills, possession games and, to finish, small-sided games.

Pulido missed the session as he was off at camp with the Under-20 National Team, which will play against Italy in Mantova on Wednesday. Additionally, Koke was out as he was undergoing treatment for the knee sprain he suffered against Espanyol. Domínguez was off representing the squad in Dublin at the handing out of the Europa League trophy to UEFA, which Atleti so brilliantly won over Fulham last year in Hamburg, Germany.

For his part, Forlán did alternative work in the gym and then on the field for an hour under the orders of Oscar Pitillas. Also, Tiago and Ufjalusi didn’t train as they had the Club’s permission due to personal reasons, and Mario Suárez was unable to train due to stomach problems.
